They came for Easter first. Now they’re coming for Christmas. The pattern is clear if you’re paying attention.
Friends, I need to share something the Lord put on my heart this week. The war on Christmas started long before December. It started in March, with the systematic marginalization of Easter. Consequently, by the time December arrives, Christians are already weakened, their holy days already diminished. This is strategic. This is spiritual warfare.
When someone says “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas,” that’s the culmination of months of preparation. Similarly, they’ve been practicing on Easter all year.
How The War On Christmas Started Early
Think about Easter. Furthermore, think about what they’ve done to it. Bunnies. Eggs. Chocolate. Somewhere in there, we’re supposed to remember the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, but we’re too busy hunting for plastic eggs filled with jellybean.
That’s not an accident. That’s softening the battlefield. Additionally, by the time December comes, we’re conditioned to accept secular substitutes for sacred celebrations. The war on Christmas started with the commercialization of Easter, and nobody noticed because we were distracted by Peeps.
As I wrote in my piece about spiritual warfare in the headlines, these battles are connected. The enemy doesn’t just attack once. He attacks continuously, in ways we don’t recognize until it’s too late.
The Evidence Is Everywhere
Last Easter, I counted the religious cards at my local store versus the bunny cards. The bunnies won by a significant margin. Nevertheless, nobody called it a “war on Easter.” They saved that language for December, when we’re supposed to forget that Easter was already compromised.
Meanwhile, Thanksgiving is under attack too. They want us focused on “gratitude” instead of thanking God specifically. It’s all connected. Therefore, when you see someone celebrating a secular Easter in spring, you’re seeing the opening battle of the war on Christmas.
Wake Up, Church
The church has been silent about this for too long. We defend Christmas in December, but where are we in March? Where are we when Easter becomes about chocolate instead of Christ? Where are we when the culture systematically strips the sacred from our holy days?
I’ll tell you where I am. I’m in my basement office, separated from my son Kyle by a bookshelf, writing truth while the world celebrates pagan substitutes for Christian holidays. Someone has to say these things.
What We Must Do
First, we must recognize that the war on Christmas started months ago. Second, we must defend all Christian holidays, not just the December ones. Third, we must reject the secular versions they’re selling us.
This isn’t about being difficult. Instead, it’s about being faithful. It’s about seeing the pattern and refusing to participate in it.
The war on Christmas is real. However, it didn’t start in December. It started the moment we let Easter become about bunnies.
Faith. Family. Freedom from chocolate-based religious compromise.
Amen.
