Kyle says he’s just playing games. But I’ve felt the temperature drop in that basement. I’ve seen the shadows move.
Friends, I want to tell you about a battle happening right now—not overseas, not in Washington, but in my basement. My son Kyle spends six to eight hours daily in front of his computer, playing video games through which spiritual portals are opening. He doesn’t see it. Tammy tells me I’m being dramatic. Furthermore, the thermostat says the basement temperature is normal. But I know what I’ve felt.
Scripture tells us to be vigilant. I am vigilant. Even when my family thinks I’m being obsessive about the basement.
The Signs Of Video Games Spiritual Portals
Let me be clear: I’m not saying every video game is demonic. However, I am saying that when my son plays certain games—the ones with the magic, the summoning, the dark imagery—something changes in that basement. Consequently, the air feels heavier. Additionally, Kyle becomes irritable, distant, more interested in his screen than in coming to dinner. Therefore, the correlation is undeniable.
As I wrote about the spiritual attack through his vaping, Kyle has been targeted. The enemy knows he’s the son of a man called to ministry. Moreover, video games with spiritual portals represent the enemy’s next strategy. First the vape. Now the games. The pattern is clear.
What The Portals Look Like
I’ve done my research. Consequently, I’ve watched twelve hours of videos about gaming and spiritual warfare. Many experts—people with YouTube channels and strong convictions—agree that certain games literally open doorways for demonic influence. Furthermore, Kyle’s games involve magic systems, dark realms, and characters who cast spells. He says it’s “just mechanics” and “fantasy.” But fantasy based on what? That’s the question nobody wants to ask.
Last Tuesday, I went down to bring him a sandwich. Moreover, I felt a chill the moment I hit the fourth step. Kyle didn’t notice. He was wearing headphones, shouting at his “teammates” about “flanking” something. Additionally, his energy drink cans numbered seven. Seven. The number of completion—but completion of what?
A Father’s Vigil
Tammy says I should “give him space” and “trust the process.” But what process? The process of losing my son to a glowing screen and whatever comes through it? Therefore, I’ve started praying specifically over the basement. Furthermore, I’ve anointed the doorframe. Kyle asked why the door smelled like olive oil. I told him it was a new cleaning product.
I’m not afraid to admit that I don’t fully understand video games. However, I understand spiritual warfare. I understand that the enemy adapts. I understand that what looks like entertainment might be something else entirely.
Pray for Kyle. Pray for fathers everywhere watching their children disappear into basements, into screens, into worlds we weren’t meant to enter. The battle is real. The portals are open. And I’m not backing down.
Amen.
