The media wants you to think the president is a hypocrite. That’s because they don’t understand common sense.
So the media is having a field day because Trump voted by mail in a Florida special election. The Washington Post ran a whole story about it like they caught the man in some kind of trap. Let me save everyone some time. There’s a huge difference between what the president did and what he’s trying to stop with the Save America Act, and if you can’t see it, that’s your problem.
The president lives in Washington, D.C. He’s running the country. He can’t exactly pop down to Palm Beach every time there’s a local race for state legislature. Even his own spokesperson called it a “non-story” because of the travel situation. That’s called having responsibilities. Look it up.
The Save America Act Would Still Let Trump Vote By Mail
The bill the Senate is debating right now would still allow mail-in voting for illness, disability, military service, or travel. Trump falls squarely under that last one. He travels. For his job. As president. Of the United States. So he’s not breaking his own proposed rules. He’s demonstrating how the exception is supposed to work.
The problem isn’t people like the president requesting a ballot. The problem is universal mail-in voting, where ballots get shipped to every address whether anyone asked for them or not. Trump said it himself on Monday in Memphis: “Mail-in voting means mail-in cheating.” He wasn’t talking about his ballot. He was talking about the system.
Nobody’s Asking the Real Question About Trump Voting By Mail
Here’s what the media won’t tell you. Democrats have flipped nine state legislative seats in special elections since Trump took office. Nine. Republicans have flipped zero. You want to tell me that’s organic? Low-turnout elections where nobody’s paying attention, and one party keeps overperforming beyond what the numbers suggest? Call me crazy, but that sounds like exactly the kind of thing the Save America Act is designed to address.
Now here’s the part that really gets me. Trump was in Palm Beach over the weekend. Early in-person voting was available through Sunday. He could have walked right in and voted at a polling station. He chose to vote by mail instead. And you know what? That’s his right. Because he’s not the one flooding the zone with millions of unsolicited ballots. He requested his, filled it out, and sent it back. That’s the system working. For him.
Why Common Sense Is Always the First Casualty
When the president votes by mail, it’s a scandal. When thirty-six states let anyone with a pulse do it for any reason whatsoever, that’s “access.” Give me a break. Yes, Trump voted by mail. So did a third of the country in 2024. The difference is he wants to fix the system, not exploit it.
The rules should be simple. Show up, show your ID, cast your vote. Unless you have a good reason not to—like being the president, or being sick, or serving overseas. Trump has a good reason. Most people don’t. That’s the whole difference, and I shouldn’t have to spell it out every single time.
My problem is that I expect people to think for themselves. That’s called critical thinking. And I’m full of it.
