Thirty-five judges, two liberal newspapers, and not one of them did what I did: read the thing and follow the money.
They are at it again. Thirty-five former federal judges marched into a Miami courthouse this week to call the Trump IRS deal a “fraud on the court,” and wouldn’t you know it, The New York Times and The Washington Post could not print it fast enough. Now, I do not usually read the liberal papers. But every so often a man has to know what the other side is selling. So I read it. All of it.
And here is what two decades of real-world experience and a whole lot of late-night documentaries have taught me. When everybody important agrees on something this fast, you stop and you ask one question. Who benefits? Follow the money. It is the only research method that has never once let me down.
What These Papers Won’t Tell You About the Trump IRS Deal
They want your eyes on the president. Classic misdirection. Meanwhile, nobody is asking who pays for thirty-five retired judges and their fancy lawyers to file a twenty-four-page motion on a random Wednesday. You think those fellas work for free?
So I looked into the outfit behind it. Some group calling itself Democracy Defenders. “Democracy.” Sure. They always name them something like that, don’t they. Coincidence? I think not. Follow the money far enough and it never ends where they tell you it will.
A Number That Tells You Everything
Here is the part the experts skipped right over. The fund is for one billion, seven hundred and seventy-six million dollars. As in 1776. As in the year regular folks told the powdered-wig crowd of THEIR day to pound sand. You do not land on a number like that by accident. That is a man sending a message, and I for one received it loud and clear. Let that sink in.
And before some egghead with a podcast starts in about taxpayer money and immunity, save your breath. This was never about the president making a dime. The man could have golfed for four years. The same watchdog groups crunching their usual numbers never made a peep when Hunter was selling paintings or the speech circuit was paying four hundred grand a pop. Follow the money, fine. Just follow it in BOTH directions for once.
I’m Just Asking Questions
So no, I am not losing one minute of sleep over the Trump IRS deal. I have got questions, plenty of them, but they are the questions nobody on the TV wants to touch. Why now? And what about this contractor who leaked the returns in the first place? Who decided that was fine but a man settling his own case is the crime of the century?
I did my own research, the same way I always do, and it confirmed pretty much everything I already figured going in. The eggheads will call me naive. They will say a regular guy ought to trust the judges and the professors and the folks with the diplomas on the wall. But I have got one thing a diploma cannot buy and a courtroom cannot take away. You know what that is called? Healthy skepticism. And I’m full of it.
